I’ve had multiple blogs. Most have been on free sites, non-monetized. It has almost always been about knitting. At one point, I had a small following, and I loved it. I am still friends with people I met through my blog!!! Then, I had my son, and I just didn’t have time.
I have always secretly wanted to blog as a part time job. (There is an entrepreneur inside me trying to get out…) I’ve read about it, listened to podcasts about it, and dreamed about it. Then, I never did it. I think I secretly doubted myself. I wondered where I could find the time…. I also didn’t think I was a knitting expert, even though I LOVED knitting. I didn’t think I could really build something based on my knitting. (However, I can’t let this knitting thing go, so you are going to see some knitting!!)
My main thoughts were – what do I have to share with people? I work in healthcare (and the last thing I want to do is talk about it when I’m not there), I knit, I work on our 1890 Victorian house, I raise my son, I like to cook/bake, and I like to work out. That seems like a very bland and typical life.
This is no joke — I had a dream about it recently. (I’m telling you my subconscious was screaming at me about it!!) I woke up at 4:50am – my husband was out of town…. so I got up and started researching. I came across the “Do You Even Blog Podcast?” and the first interview was Grace, from “Chasing Foxes“. The biggest thing is that she didn’t niche down. Something clicked. I do have things to share – I’m always working hard to try and live my very best life. I’m learning the things not to do, and the things that are helpful. I work hard to make this “typical life” rewarding!! I had to try. I had to start. I thought about this for another week.
I’m in healthcare, and let me tell you – it’s rapidly changing, and not always for the best. I tend to have a lot more frustrating days than gratifying days. So, a week of thinking about this blog, and how to make money from this blog. Then, on a Friday – I had one of my worst days ever. I immediately came home, and bought a year of hosting and a domain. (Talk about an impulse purchase!) So, now there is no take backs. I have a year to try.
I hope you follow along with me. I will post my “income reports” – I am expecting some negative values to be honest! I will post my mistakes, my triumphs, and give you some real talk about this whole blogging thing. I am totally non-tech, and not very social media savvy. So, this will be interesting. We may get a few laughs along the way if nothing else!
Do you have a blog? What made you start it?
