How to Make Heart Designs in Royal Icing
I wanted to share with you how to do this simple technique. Even the most novice of cookie decorators can do this!
If you don’t know the basics of cookie making, such as flooding the cooking and making the icing consistency I highly suggest this cookie decorating course on Craftsy! To make this cookie, I used the Sweet Sugarbelle heart cookie cutter from this awesome set of cutters. I love this particular shaped heart!
(And I will be asked for my recipe for this chocolate sugar cookie, so I’ll go ahead and tell you I use the LilaLoa recipe. It is basically brownie meets cookie – aka heaven.)
Once you have your heart-shaped cookie flooded, you will use the other icing for the hearts to do a wet on wet technique. This means you are putting wet icing on wet icing!
Basically, place small dots of the white icing into your flooded icing. Then, take your scribe tool or toothpick to drag through the center of the dot while it’s wet. It will naturally take on a heart shape!
